My primary research interests are indigenous South American religions and religious experience, shamanism, ayahuasca, altered states of consciousness, religion and nature, dark green religion, animism, and animistic sociologies.  I am interested in the ways in which indigenous societies continue to actively create their own modernities, and how these alternative modernities are shaped by, and actively shape, cosmological, ontological, and epistemological realities.  I sincerely believe that these unique modernities and their attendant modes of living, being, thinking, and knowing present significant and viable alternatives and answers toward combatting the psycho-spiritual disenchantment and environmental devastation facing the (nominally) modern world.
