PhD in Linguistics from UC Berkeley, but with an emphasis not well recognized there (Basque syntax and discourse structure). Originally worked on a language (Basque) that most specialists view from a totally different perspective. I teach in a World Languages department in Massachusetts. Not recognized as a linguist there either. Such is life.
