Causes of the disorder: IBS is a persistent functional problem. It is not a disease for which there is a specific particular cause. There may possibly be underlying issues that increase the risk to Irritable Bowel Syndrome. There are also factors that precipitate the disorder. Other factors also sustain Irritable Bowel Syndromefor years to come.

 

A careful study of the published papers suggests that the major predisposing reasons for chronic gut problems may be Nutrigenomic interactions and toxins from the environment causing abnormal functioning of gastrointestinal systems in the bowel and intestines, and additionally in the brain.  Nutrigenomic studies teach us that a number of non infectious diseases including diarrhoea and constipation, evolve when gene aberrations, which have been in our genes for milleniums, interact with poor nutrition and toxins in our staple foods. Common mutations within genes, low nutrient contents in food, low escherichia coli levels or gut infections from enteric pathogens, and environmental toxins can all converge to cause, trigger or maintain IBS.
