My research explores Aesthetics through the lens of social systems theory in an approach I call Aesthetic Systems. I am interested in the way aesthetic systems emerge and develop and how members' learning (informal learning as well as formal and nonformal education) contributes to systemic functioning. I have studied folk music systems in Western Canada and am currently working on Hip Hop music and urbanism in Edmonton Canada.
