In a globalised world, multinational enterprises (MNEs) take as much advantage of lax labour and environmental standards in parts of the world other than their home state.
The corporate veil and low judicial standards abroad allow them to gain an extra profit from environmental and human rights abuse.
But courts in several states are increasingly applying universal jurisdiction and domestic law of tort/delict to allow the victims access to remedies.
