Recent Group Discussion
No recent group discussions.
This group is dedicated to the academic study of the supernatural and the forms of expressive culture through which people engage with it. The assumption is that constructions of the supernatural, like all forms of expressive culture, serve important social functions for the individuals and groups who deploy them. Discourses of the supernatural from both traditional and new media are explored, and special attention is given to the convergence of "traditional" and "popular" influences. The group should be of special interest to folklorists, anthropologists, and religious studies scholars.
