Dedicated to the academic study of myth, both in its more conventional meaning of narratives detailing cosmogony and cosmology, and in the various contemporary readings of myth as semantic systems of knowledge and communication. Equal focus is given to the theories (past and present) that inform myth scholarship and to area-specific studies. As myth scholarship has been and continues to be the domain of many interrelated disciplines, the works represented here will reflect a strong multidisciplinary tendency and should prove of value to scholars and students in such fields as anthropology, folklore, and cultural studies, to name just a few.
