The Mediterranean Issue

The group collects literature about music traditions of the Mediterranean. It is about the religious context (Sufis, Sephardim, Orthodox, all kinds of Christian Associations or Brotherhoods), about less or more secular or paraliturgical rural and urban traditions (like Tarantella or Rebetiko). It is concerned with history (Andalusia, the Caliphates, the Byzantine Empire, the history of the Holy Inquisition, and the Ottoman empire) , but also with field research of current traditions of the Mediterranean.
