We are hosting a conversation regarding the methods of persuasion, the power of narratives and evolving means for reaching young people and encouraging their religious fervor, radicalization and extremism. From evangelizing to coercion, what methods have been consistently effective throughout history? What new aspects of media are having a different sort of influence in the thinking of young people around the world? What is the difference between radicalism and extremism, and are the motives for violence the same or different? We apply these lenses in brief case analyses of violence in the name of Islam, especially in regard to global recruitment efforts of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Levant, or ISIL.
