Course Summary
This course is arranged in three parts, the first giving a necessary outline of the historical background of the field of international communication and a description of the major media actors in Japan and the structures and processes that link them. Parts two and three are structured by theoretical approaches, part two oriented primarily toward perspectives on international communications, that is, focused primarily on interaction between nation-states, and part three toward the relationship between information and audiences. Where relevant and useful, each of the theory lectures include case studies taken from the East Asian sphere, with special emphasis on the international relations of Japan.
