The Los Angeles region’s landscape is undergoing a transformation unlike anything since the highway construction boom of the 1950s and 1960s. Land use conflicts related to energy infrastructure siting are, and will continue to be, a major economic, social and political problem in the greater Los Angeles (LA) area. Power Struggles consists of two integrated research domains: a web-based map of new and proposed energy infrastructure projects for the LA region and a social movement analysis of the impact of opposition groups on historical infrastructure energy facility siting outcomes in Southern California. Each domain seeks to help optimize regional economic, environmental, and social sustainability outcomes for the region.
