This is a group for examples of the myriad ways that study area locations are reported in ecological literature. The initial set of papers here describe 20 different formats for reporting location - including simple place-name descriptions, tables of point coordinates, bounding boxes, and river miles.
The goal of this group is to create a representative sample of location reporting styles from which parsers can be developed to automate the extraction and standardization of study locations. These locations could be used to support geographic searching for ecological literature (see http://www.journalmap.org for an example).
We encourage Zotero members to contribute other examples of how locations and areas are reported in ecological literature.
