Four degrees in Geology from the University of the Orange Free State



B.Sc - 1970

B.Sc Honn - 1971

M.Sc - 1975 - thesis on the geology north-west of Loeriesfontein 

PhD - 1988 - thesis on the geology between Springbok and the Orange River



1973 – 1975: Exploration geologist for Iscor, based in Vanrhynsdorp.

1975 – 1985: Researcher/lecturer - UOFS. Focussed on the metamorphic petrology,

structural geology and tectonics in Namaqualand and Bushmanland.

Published some papers on this research.



1985 - 1990: Anglo American Seismic Research unit as Research Mine Seismologist
1990 – 2001: Mine seismologist and part of the management team of ISS International

 (the company registered in 1990) in Welkom.

Main work was on fault stability and rockburst prediction.

Published some papers about this topic.
2002 – 2008: Manager: Mine Seismology, ISSI, Western Levels –

managed services contracts

and researched dynamic shearing and fracturing in deep gold mines.
2009 – 2010: Part time consultant for ISSI in Stellenbosch. 2011 - :Joined the Institute of Mine Seismology (successor company to ISSI)

as Director and Head: Africa Operations.
