I study birds. Avian communities compete with humans for resources and habitat. My research explores how avian community composition varies across space and through time.  I quantify and describe habitat combining field and remotely sensed data.  

Any habitat is interesting but I emphasize parks as niches and describe  niiches by quantifying the community composition associated with specific vegetation and structural  characteristics.  

I teach geography courses including US National Parks, Landscape Ecology, Biogeography, and Culture & Environment.
