I work as a system administrator and database application developer by day and do academic work at night. I like to spend my time studying social sciences, philosophy, physical sciences, religion, theology, and history. My undergrad degree was in philosophy with a heavy emphasis on religious studies and anthropology. Now, in my 40s, I'm finally in graduate school part-time working toward a PhD in sociology of religion. My current research interests lie mainly within the areas of sociology and psychology of religion, irreligion, atheism, spirituality, and morality.

I've studied the philosophies and religions of human cultures for over 20 years from different perspectives—philosophical, literary, historical, sociological, anthropological, psychological. I am not, however, a member of any religion. I'm a religious naturalist and humanist with an affinity for Stoic, Buddhist and Daoist philosophies. As a naturalist I do not believe that anything supernatural exists, and I consider religions to be merely complex expressions of human culture.
