Research and Relief Work

2010-11 June-Aug, Dec-Jan, Port-au-Prince, Haiti (preliminary dissertation fieldwork). Research focus: Cuban medical aid in Haiti, urban political affiliations, contemporary conceptions of Haitian revolution, earthquake and cholera relief.

 

2010 October, Sukkur and Karachi, Pakistan (flood relief work with Global DIRT and International and Canadian Medical Assistance Teams). Relief focus: installation of water filtration system, organization of IDP (internally displaced persons) camp pharmacy.

 

2009 June-August, Kigali, Rwanda (summer research project). Research focus: illicit mineral (coltan) trade between DR Congo and Rwanda, female participation in illicit economies, violence and economic choice.

 

2005 September-November, Lima, Peru (volunteer with Cross-Cultural Solutions). Relief focus: assistance to physicians in physical therapy clinic
