Professional Experience

Research Assistant,           Center for National Preparedness, Univ. of Pittsburgh

06/2008 ~ present

Pittsburgh, PA

Ø Dynamic Discrete Disaster Response Simulation project

·    Establishing a decision support system for massive casualties involved disaster response using Simulation and Statistical Analysis techniques;

·    Created a complex simulation model, which includes disaster site, transportation network for evacuation, and hospitals sub-systems. Developed a system using Repast (open-sourced toolkit for agent-based simulation), adopted real GIS data in constructing transportation network and displayed the evacuation process in a GIS view dynamically along with simulation going;

·    Created different agents to represent different stakeholders (casualties, on-site EMTs, ambulances, hospitals and commanders) which can interact each other to simulate the complex system dynamics;

·    Employed different response policies to guide agents’ behaviors. Applied statistical methods (such as Ranking & Selection) in evaluating and identifying the best policy, as well as in optimizing the control of simulation.

Research Assistant,           Dept of Industrial Engineering, Univ. of Pittsburgh

09/2006 ~ 04/2009

Pittsburgh, PA

Ø NSF-funded “Tools and Artifacts in Innovative Design” project

·    Collected activity data of student design groups from video clips, presentation PPTs and design logs;

·    Established measuring matrix for design evaluation;

·    Developed Web-based tools for collecting design data and performing evaluation.

Summer Intern,                 ANSYS Inc.

05/2006 ~ 08/2006

Pittsburgh, PA

Ø Developed user-interfaces & tested and benchmarked new sub-routines

·    Developed pre-processing user interface for simulation tool using Visual C++/QT, XML

·    Tested and benchmarked the multi-physics coupling modules of new version ANSYS® (v11.0),

Tools used: ANSYS® (v10.0 & v11.0) + CFX (v11.0), VS.NET 2005(C#)

Teaching Assistant,           Dept of Industrial Engineering, Univ. of Pittsburgh

09/2005 ~ 04/2006

Pittsburgh, PA

Ø   Conducted lab sessions (taught SolidWorks® modeling) and graded homework for undergraduate course of Computer Aided Design (IE-1051) with 30+ students.

Programmer,                     China National Cereals, Oils & Foodstuffs Corp. (COFCO)

07/2003 ~ 06/2005

Beijing, China

Ø Lead programmer for developing Java-based Short-Message information service providing system

·    Critical role in Agricultural Information SMS project (cooperative between COFCO and CCTV-7 & China National Radiocast), whose goal was to provide agricultural information for 4-million Chinese farmers through mobile phone short-message.

·    Responsible for system architecting & database design, participated in module development

·    JSP/Servlet/Struts/XML based, Web Server: Resin; Database: SQL Server, Hibernate

·    The system was deployed in Aug 2004, and running stably till July 2006.

Ø Principal programmer for developing Web-based agricultural products transaction system

·    Developed several Servlet/JSP modules, such as User-privilege Control, Competitive Bidding, etc.

Research Assistant,           Dept of Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University

03/2001 ~ 06/2003

Beijing, China

Ø Worked on Electron-Beam Welding Simulation Platform project (collaboration with General Electric Inc.)

·    Established new mathematical model to describe the welding heat-source efficiently, which can lead to more efficient simulation while maintaining result precision unaffected;

·   Developed Welding Simulation Toolkit, which greatly enhanced ABAQUS® capacity on welding simulation by inducing dedicated sub-routines and preprocessor.
