Silvio Peroni

Silvio Peroni holds a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and he is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Classical Philology and Italian Studies, University of Bologna. He is an expert in document markup and semantic descriptions of bibliographic entities using OWL ontologies. He is one of the main developers of SPAR (Semantic Publishing and Referencing, http://www.sparontologies.net) Ontologies, he is Director of OpenCitations (http://opencitations.net), and founding member of the Initiative for Open Citations (I4OC, https://i4oc.org). His work on Semantic Publishing topics has been recently published by Springer in a book entitled Semantic Web Technologies and Legal Scholarly Publishing. He counts several publications in high-impact journals (e.g. Semantic Web Journal, Journal of Web Semantics, Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology) and presentations in important international conferences (e.g. International Semantic Web Conference, Extended Semantic Web Conference, International Conference on Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management). He is an Editorial Board member of Data Science, PeerJ Computer Science, and Research Ideas and Outcomes, and he has been in the Program Committee and in the Organising Committee of the most important international conferences and workshops related to Web and Semantic Web technologies. Among his research interests are Semantic Web technologies, markup languages for complex documents, design patterns for digital documents and ontology modelling, and automatic processes of analysis and segmentation of documents, creation and maintenance of big RDF repositories. In particular, his recent works concern the empirical analysis of the nature of scholarly citations, the study of visualisation and browsing interfaces for semantic data, and the development of ontologies to manage, integrate and query bibliographic information and fashion design data according to temporal and contextual constraints.
