Innocence Smith
My name is Innocence Smith and I am a Georgia native. It is fair say that my educational goals have varied slightly since my beginning semester at Saybrook University. My experience in the MBM Integrative Mental Health Ph.D. Program thus far has caused me to reevaluate my ultimate career goals. I have since learned that my new goal is to further my training as an holistic sexologist and enhance my skills as an integrative sexual health and wellness consultant by using the mind/body medicine approach to help my clients enhance their unique sexual functioning. I am keenly interested in the psychodynamic interactions between mind and body and the powerful ways in which emotional, mental, social and spiritual factors can directly affect one's health.
As an advocate for the importance of feminine sexuality and holistic well-being, I believe that many sexual dysfunction symptoms aren’t generally caused by physiological issues, but rather by a psychological mind-body disconnect. From a psychological perspective, I am drawn to the multidisciplinary perspective to help promote positive sexual health behaviors, encourage behavioral change and behavioral maintenance. My personal research interest lies in women's holistic sexual health and reproductive functioning. I am also interested in topics related to gender health equity, positive sexual attitudes, healthy sexual function and dysfunction. I’m always seeking ways to transpose feminine and gender studies literature with sexual health psychology literature.
