Jeff Dillman

I finished my Ph.D candidate in the Transatlantic History program at the University of Texas at Arlington in December, 2011. My dissertation focused on natural history, travel writing and landscapes in the British West Indies during the 17th and 18th centuries. My research interests also include colonial North America, history of Cartography, and landscape studies. I am at work on several projects including a comparative study of Spanish and Anglo views of the colonial Texas landscape, an examination of the relationship of Obeah and landscape in late eighteenth and early nineteenth century Jamaica, the relationship between maps and evolving landscape views in the British Caribbean, and Tejano views of Texas annexation. I currently work as a full-time instructor of history at Temple College in Temple, Texas.
