Resume
Background
I am a Sports Science graduate studying a remote learning MSc in Strength & Conditioning at St Mary’s University, Twickenham while also holding a position as lead Strength & Conditioning coach at Hong Kong lacrosse and their High Performance Programme.
I was motivated to try to develop my career in fitness as a result of my role as a strength and conditioning coach with a professional athlete. My passion is working with groups of athletes to them prepare for events or to develop particular attributes that will improve their performance. I also enjoy working more directly with members of the public to help make a change in their lives.
I like meeting new people and trying new ideas. I am hardworking and take pleasure in teaching new skills and then seeing people put those skills into practice. Playing inline hockey gave me the opportunity to start coaching from a relatively young age. I was interested in the preparation of sports teams, so started studying different methods of training, became part of the coaching staff and later went on to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Science. From 2006 to 2011 I was part of the Great Britain coaching staff and have also represented Great Britain at two World Championships. More recently in June 2012 I coached the Hong Kong Inline Hockey team to their most successful trip to the Junior Olympics in the USA, returning with 5 Gold medals and 2 Silver medals across 5 age groups. In March 2013 I was appointed as the head strength and conditioning coach for the men’s Hong Kong national Lacrosse team, being in charge of the fitness department of their High Performance Programme.
I am a self-motivated and enthusiastic person with a strong passion to develop my knowledge and career in the field of sport and fitness. My coaching background has developed my leadership skills, I am able to work well on my own or as part of a team and can motivate others to deliver results. My experiences have enabled me to develop my skills in planning and implementing meaningful training experiences for people of all backgrounds. Through my different roles I have acquired skills such as time management, working under pressure, professional communication and presentation, and creative problem solving, which I feel will enable me to contribute further to the work environment. I have worked along side some of the best boxing, inline hockey and fitness coaches in Britain giving me the chance to observe and try new and exciting ways for people to meet their fitness goals. I have taken it upon myself to arrange unpaid work experience placements for myself with several sports teams including Swansea City FC and Scarlets RFC while also holding an unpaid position at Hong Kong Lacrosse for 18 months in preparation for the 2014 World Championships in Denver. I believe that this shows my motivation, work ethic and desire to progress my development as a Strength and Conditioning coach.
I bring to my work a commitment to the fitness industry, a willingness to work collaboratively with others and a strong desire for quality outcomes. I have lots of experience working with both children and adults and have attended sports coach UK personal development seminars covering working with children in sport and working with disabled performers in sport. I am very comfortable using word processing, spreadsheets and I am confident making videos and websites, having produced instructional training videos and websites. As a result of the knowledge and skills gained through my studies at Swansea University and my working experiences, I am confident that I will be able to accept the challenges that accompany meeting goals. I hope to continue to further my knowledge and gain more experience in the field.
