Professional Experience

Professional Experience George Fox Evangelical Seminary. 2008-present. Faculty Advisor and Online Facilitator (Position title to change to Associate Director for the Doctor of Ministry Program beginning July, 2010). My role includes a blend of academic and administrative responsibilities. These include: • Faculty Advisor and mentor for doctoral students (I began as an adjunct in this role in 2004). In this capacity I oversee customized courses and advise students regarding sources, content, and program design. • Dissertation advisor, second reader, and “expert advisor” for DMin dissertations, and chair of appropriate oral defense committees. I also provide technical and general academic assistance for DMin students and faculty, and teach two DMIN research courses. • Provide orientation and ongoing support for all new DMin instructors and advisors • Create, revise, and maintain program guiding documents • Interview DMin applicants • Assist in grant writing and reporting on use of funds from Foundations. Along with our DMin Director, in 2008-09 I co-wrote a successful grant for $170,000 from the Murdock Foundation to subsidize one of our new Doctor of Ministry tracks. • Represent the seminary and the DMin program at conferences and church gatherings. • Monitor and facilitate weekly DMin online chats, compile and input all DMin course grades, and provide other technical and academic assistance to students and faculty as required. University of Phoenix (Oregon Campus 2004-present). Current member of the faculty, teaching general studies courses in the College of Arts and Sciences. My experience with UoP includes: • Classroom experience and with online/classroom hybrid format (in the FlexNet program). • Performing Academic Quality Assurance (AQA) reviews with other faculty. • Faculty Mentor for orienting new faculty in both on-ground and FlexNet (hybrid) formats. • Assessor for new faculty teaching demonstrations. • Faculty representative for New Student Orientations (NSO’s). • Served as a faculty representative on a committee to deal with plagiarism cases. • Selected as the 2007 Faculty of the Year (Arts & Sciences) for the Oregon campus. • Selected as Faculty speaker for 2007 commencement. Warner Pacific College (2005-2008). Adjunct faculty instructor, teaching on-ground classroom courses in Biblical Literature and Religion in American Culture. Grand Canyon University—Member of the faculty for online programs (2005-present). Developed and wrote curriculum for a new online course in “Spiritual Formation and Discipleship, MIN315”—June, 2005, and currently serve as an online instructor in Bible and ministry courses. GCU is a Christian liberal arts university in Phoenix, AZ, with one of the nation’s top-ranked online programs. Northwest Christian Evangelistic Association (NWCEA)/ Genesis, 2005-2009—Served as Director of Training and Mentoring for this church-planting organization. Responsible for developing mentoring ministry and ongoing training for new church planters, internship programs, and renewal resources for existing area churches and pastors. I developed these programs through NWCEA’s “Genesis” Regional Training Center. • I had the lead role in developing our Genesis Biblical Certification Series, with classes beginning in Fall, 2007. This series is intended to provide high-level Bible and theological education for church leaders and congregational members, in a more accessible format than courses for academic credit at colleges or seminaries. Impact Ministries International, Northwest Regional Director, 2003-2006. Responsible for developing and overseeing a team of Impact staff working with college/university campus ministries, and with discipleship and retreat ministries. After being on staff less than a year I recruited a new staff member to initiate a new campus ministry at Boise State University (which is still in place and growing). In this capacity I developed a network of connections with campus ministers in the Northwest and the rest of the country. Tigard Christian Church, 1983-2004 • Minister of Christian Education and Adult Ministries from 1983-2004. Membership/involvement of approximately 700 during the time I was there. • Primarily responsible for Christian Education, pastoral care, small groups, assimilation, counseling, developing courses and curriculum, supervising and training ministry volunteers. Was responsible for children’s ministry for six years, then shifted to primarily adult ministries. • Utilizing the Bethel Bible Study Series, I trained three groups of teachers in a two-year intensive Bible-learning program, and taught four one-year basic congregational level classes. • Initiated use of Stephen Ministry at TCC for training lay people in providing supportive one-on-one care ministry. Responsible for recruiting, screening and interviewing, training, and assigning Stephen Ministers. Trained four classes of Stephen Ministers. • Initiated and facilitated the Dynamic Marriage® marriage enrichment program at TCC. Facilitated four classes and recruited three other couples for training and certification as facilitators. • Substantial experience in premarital counseling and work with couples. • Developed and taught numerous Bible and ministry-related courses for adults. • Leadership for small group ministries at TCC—developed and utilized in-house training program; promotion and organization. • Developed a successful Vacation Bible School program. • Worked with assimilation of visitors and development of courses for new members. • Provided oversight for senior adult ministry. • Extensive involvement in the general pastoral ministry of the church: teaching, preaching, pastoral care and counseling, evangelism, administration and programming, funerals, weddings, working with committees, etc.
