I am a special projects consultant for global enterprise clients, offering online product development expertise across a broad spectrum:

I help IT and executives understand their mutual value to one another, and facilitate a cooperative effort to effectively throw out every piece of legacy system as a new, strategically-aligned infrastructure is built to replace the old systems.

We study the budgets, proposals and mindset of the IT leadership in place 5 and 10 years earlier at their company. I go back in the corporate archives and have current BDMs read proposals by their predecessors anticipating a larger PBX telephone demand in 2005, and pages of forecasts predicting dramatic increases in the service budgets to maintain the influx of Selectric typewriters, fax machines and immenent reliance by the financial departments on Lotus123 that we were supposed to be using in the 21st Century.

It doesn't require a lot of further debate to change their approach to growth and planning even biannually: I suggest their plans always anticipate technology that hasn't been invented, and businesses operating in ways alien to us at orders of magnitude greater than planners in 1980 ever pondered.
