Christakis Mina

Christakis (Chris) Mina is PhD candidate at the Graduate School of Engineering, Department of Urban Management of Kyoto University, Japan. He holds a Diploma of Technician Civil Engineer of the Higher Technical Institute of Cyprus (1992), a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, USA (1996) and a Master of Science in Engineering from Kyoto University, Japan (2007). Chris' Master's Thesis proposed a method to evaluate the soil decontamination cost risk of contaminated land using Machine Learning and Bayesian Neural Networks. During his Master's studies he was also involved in several other research projects. One of them was the Natural Hazards Risk Identification and Mitigation Project (MIRISK) for the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery of the World Bank.

Following his graduation from the University of Texas at Austin Chris worked as a civil engineer in American and European multinational engineering firms until 2004 when he was awarded the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Government Scholarship to study at Kyoto University.

In April 2007, Chris entered the PhD program of Kyoto University where he currently researches Open Technological Standardization Processes within the Complex Social Network Analysis Framework.

Chris is a registered professional Civil Engineer in Cyprus and a member of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Japan Society of Civil Engineers.
