I am Associate Professor of English and Director of Freshman English at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. My research focuses on rhetorical education and its relationship to historical and contemporary visions of citizenship. My work is especially invested in understanding the role and place of rhetorical education in transnational and cosmopolitan contexts. My first book, Rhetoric and the Global Turn in Higher Education argues for a productive but critical response to the global higher education movement that has indelibly shaped higher education in the past thirty years. My work also takes on the growing backlash to global education fueled by populist, nationalist rhetorics.
