{"id":86,"date":"2007-10-05T11:48:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-05T15:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zotero.org\/blog\/happy-birthday-zotero\/"},"modified":"2007-10-05T11:48:00","modified_gmt":"2007-10-05T15:48:00","slug":"happy-birthday-zotero","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zotero.org\/blog\/happy-birthday-zotero\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy Birthday Zotero"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today marks the one year anniversary of  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zotero.org\/blog\/zotero-10-public-beta-launch\/\">Zotero&#8217;s public release<\/a>, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the vibrant community of Zotero users and developers. If you searched for Zotero on the web a year ago you would have found only one hit; now Zotero has been mentioned over  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;q=zotero&amp;btnG=Google+Search\">1,200,000<\/a> times on the web. Our active forums now offer over 5,500 comments in over <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.zotero.org\/discussions\/\">1,300 individual threads<\/a>. Bloggers have posted almost <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloglines.com\/search?q=zotero\">5,000 posts<\/a>, reviewing and promoting Zotero and helping us rapidly expand our audience.<\/p>\n<p>All of Zotero&#8217;s successes this year have been facilitated by our passionate users. In February, Zotero was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zotero.org\/blog\/pc-magazine-names-zotero-one-of-the-best-free-software-applications-on-the-web\/\">recognized by PC magazine<\/a> as one of the best free software applications. Its steady growth has now been augmented by a flood of new users through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/en-US\/add-ons\/campus\/\">Firefox Campus Edition<\/a>, and our recent award for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zotero.org\/blog\/zotero-wins-award-from-political-scientists\/\">best instructional technology software<\/a> from the American Political Science Association further validates the project&#8217;s progress.<\/p>\n<p>We are excited to see Zotero fulfilling its goal of becoming &#8220;the next-generation research tool.&#8221; An array of libraries now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.fsu.edu\/help\/tools\">recommend<\/a> Zotero on their websites, and many have developed <a href=\"http:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/help\/zotero\/zoteroatmit.html\">their own documentation<\/a> and are offering <a href=\"http:\/\/library.rice.edu\/services\/digital_media_center\/services\/training-workshops\/short-courses#100\">Zotero instruction for students<\/a> and faculty. Zotero has been featured on <a href=\"http:\/\/insidehighered.com\/views\/2007\/09\/26\/mclemee\">Inside Higher Education<\/a>, in the Medical Library Association&#8217;s Newsletter, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronicle.com\/weekly\/v52\/i17\/17a03102.htm\">the Chronicle of Higher Education<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.jmu.edu\/org\/jwl\/volume1_issue3.html\">Journal of Web Librarianship<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zotero.org\/support\/what_are_people_saying_about_zotero\">many other press outlets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This has certainly been a great first year for the Zotero project, but the years to come promise to be even more exciting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today marks the one year anniversary of Zotero&#8217;s public release, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the vibrant community of Zotero users and developers.
