{"id":1100,"date":"2011-08-15T08:10:41","date_gmt":"2011-08-15T12:10:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zotero.org\/blog\/?p=1100"},"modified":"2011-08-15T08:10:41","modified_gmt":"2011-08-15T12:10:41","slug":"major-upgrades-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zotero.org\/blog\/major-upgrades-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"Major Upgrades Underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Things may have seemed quiet here on the Zotero front over the past few months, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zotero.org\/trac\/timeline\">development timeline<\/a> tells a very different story: we recently recorded our 10,000th commit to the code repository, and the pace of development associated with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zotero.org\/blog\/zoteros-next-big-step\/\">Zotero Everywhere<\/a> initiative has only accelerated since then. Over the next two weeks, we&#8217;re unveiling the initial fruits of this labor, including:<\/p>\n<p><strong>An entirely redesigned website including full read and write functionality.<\/strong> Based on our own <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zotero.org\/support\/dev\/server_api\/write_api\">public API<\/a>, this site brings full interactivity with your library to any browser. A few design quirks remain, but we wanted to put all the new functionality into your hands now while we continue to iron out these issues in the background.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/zotero.org\/static\/images\/blog\/newsite.png\" alt=\"New Website\" width=\"528\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>A beta release of the standalone version of Zotero.<\/strong> This new version of Zotero for Mac, Windows, and Linux no longer runs in a browser pane and does not require Firefox.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/zotero.org\/static\/images\/blog\/standalone.png\" alt=\"Standalone\" width=\"256\" height=\"256\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>New browser connector betas.<\/strong> Zotero&#8217;s ability to grab bibliographic items with a single click now comes to browsers other than Firefox. The initial beta includes connectors for Safari, Chrome, and Firefox. If Zotero isn&#8217;t installed on the user&#8217;s machine, the connectors can add items directly to the user&#8217;s Zotero library hosted on our servers.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/zotero.org\/static\/images\/blog\/connector.png\" alt=\"Connector\" width=\"644\" height=\"443\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>New word processor integration.<\/strong> A slick and streamlined new interface for adding and editing citations will be available in Word and OpenOffice.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/zotero.org\/static\/images\/blog\/integration.png\" alt=\"Word Integration\" width=\"528\" height=\"216\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Much of this software will still remain in beta for a few more weeks, but we&#8217;re far beyond the initial alpha stage and well on our way to a production release.
