Ben Unguren
I teach documentary film history and production at BYU. I am currently a PhD candidate in Communications at the University of Utah. Interests in ethnography, new media, chaos (and other types of systemic interactions, particularly within a social setting). I love reading physics books (but only the populist[-ish] ones (Brian Greene, Kip Thorne, Edwin Abbott...) as I'm not so good with the high-end math).
Lately, I've been curious about whether silence (or noncommunication, or perhaps solitude) can exist within a larger system without simply being a problem -- that is, what sort of [positive?] effect does silence have in a system? How/can it be manifested to the rest of the system? Where does / could this happen?
I also work professionally (from time to time) as an editor (usually documentary films), motion graphics designer, and web programmer. I am an avid follower of radio documentary: TAL, Radio Lab, 3rd Coast Festival, etc... Daniel Pinkwater is one of the best fiction writers out there.
