Christian Algar
I work in the Information Profession as a Rare Books Reference Specialist. I advise and connect readers with the collections of Western, early printed materials (XVth century to 1914) held at the British Library. I am developing my interest in the History of the Book and Historical Bibliography. I have a specialist interest in newspapers, having worked in the newspaper industry as an archivist and researcher and as a Reference Specialist at British Library Newspapers. I am interested in early Modern and Modern History, especially social history. I am very generally interested in maritime social history; navigation and exploration, the transatlantic, pirates, the Royal Navy and port cities. I am drawn to what some call, 'history from below'. I am a Francophile and love the novels of Emile Zola. For me, Paul Auster is the most meaningful and enjoyable contemporary writer.
