I'm a PhD student at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, specializing in modern Russian history.  My dissertation, "The Flavor of Communism: Identity, Consumption, and Soviet Cuisine, 1917-1991," traces the development of Soviet culinary culture from the October Revolution to the collapse of the USSR.  I am examining published sources, primarily cooking advice literature, and archival materials, as well as cultural artifacts.
