Peter John MELLALIEU

My 35-year career in higher education has engaged me in teaching strategic leadership, entrepreneurship, new venture creation, adventure-based team learning and military strategy at Massey University (1987-2000). My appointment in 2000 as founding academic director for an applied Master of Business (Innovation and Entrepreneurship, MBIE) programme recognised my innovative and effective design of what I term 'learning adventures'.

A recurrent theme through my teaching has been my commitment to students' developing future-ready capabilities, especially through collaborative learning. Specifically, I focus on students developing an appreciation for the current and emerging state of knowledge, mastery in applying knowledge, professionalism, leadership, and teamwork.

From my undergraduate days studying industrial engineering, I have continued to be engaged in helping people use information technology to discover new insights from data.

Evolving from my teaching using collaborative learning, my current engagement with Peer Assess Pro includes designing a software platform that teachers use to develop students' teamwork and leadership capabilities and award fair, valid grades for group assignments. Teachers also use the platform's learning analytics for the early identification of struggling team members so they can intervene proactively to achieve academic success. In essence, Better feedback | Better teams.
