Keith Larson
Until recently I have spent my career working as a field biologist. This job has taken me all over the world working primarily with seabirds and migratory songbirds. During this time I developed excellent statistical and spatial analytical skills that I have applied to a diversity of projects. Currently, I study ecology and genetics of a songbird with two migratory phenotypes that meet in secondary contact or hybrid zone. During my tenure as a PhD student I have continued to enjoy working in the field while further developing my modelling skills. Generally, I am interested in how life history traits evolve in response to environmental gradients, making migratory birds an excellent study system. My future plans will focus on understanding the ecological factors and genetic adaptations that shape the migratory phenotype. My research will combine field-based experiments contrasting different migratory phenotypes using physiological and population genomic methods.
