Janine Utell

Janine Utell is Associate Professor and Chair of English at Widener University.

Specializing in 20th century British literature and narrative theory, her research focuses on the representation of love and intimacy and the intersections among narrative, sexuality, and ethics.  Janine is the author of James Joyce and the Revolt of Love:  Marriage, Adultery, Desire (Palgrave Macmillan, 2010).  Her current book project, entitled Erotic Biography: Reading Intimate Lives, looks at auto/biographical writing that takes marriage and couplehood as its subject; some of her work on this manuscript took place at the Project Narrative 2011 Summer Institute at The Ohio State University, where she was a fellow.   She is also a regular contributor to University of Venus (Inside Higher Ed/The Guardian), and serves as an Associate Editor for College Literature.
